The Swimmers

by

Kyle

“I grew up in the world of competitive swimming. Coaches and teammates became a second family, and the water was a second home. In the lead-up to the last Olympic games, I photographed a young team of swimmers who would likely never be Olympians but who still swam every day at sunrise. With this project I wanted to show the grassroots world of swimming that exists just beyond the tight-suit clad images of Michael Phelps. This image is a favorite from the series, as much for how it looks as for the way it captures the feeling of a Monday morning practice, with only the company of your own thoughts.”
