Joe Wilson’s Rebel Yell: Where did that come from? The New York Times asks; we answer.

After South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” outburst during President Obama’s health-care address, The New York Times asked me—along with a few other close observers of Southern politics—to try and put it in some context. Was it just a fluke that Wilson—like the wacky Gov. Mark Sanford, and like the late wacky Sen. Strom Thurmond—comes from South Carolina? Methinks not. See my analysis and others at the Times‘ “Room for Debate” forum , and add your two cents either here or there (or in both places, better yet).
