Observer Radio Episode 76: The Battle Over Social Studies Textbooks

In this episode, Houston Chronicle reporter Lauren McGaughy stops by to talk about a fight brewing over the adoption of new social studies textbooks in Texas schools. These would be the first new textbooks adopted since Texas’ current academic standards were put in place in 2010. Critics say the books push a conservative political agenda and force Christian dogma on Texas students.

SMU professor Ed Countryman joins us to talk about what he found researching the new social studies textbooks for a report published by the Texas Freedom Network.
