Eye On Texas: Bull Riding for Amateurs

Bull riding for amateurs 2

Looking for a fresh angle on an old story, I found a bull-riding school for kids that takes place twice a year in New Caney, Texas, 45 minutes north of Houston. At the weekend class that I photographed, students came from as far away as Canada. Most had never ridden a bull before but felt a calling to give it a try. Students were outfitted with the requisite equipment and taught how to improve their bull-riding technique by studying video of their attempts. I shot everything using a medium-format Hasselblad film camera.
