Bomb Threat at the Capitol [Updated]

The Capitol complex has been evacuated after Austin police received a warning of a bomb threat against the capitol or the Capitol complex. The Texas Tribune reports that those inside the Capitol heard the evacuation notice over the loud speaker system. The call came around 11 a.m. according to the Austin American-Statesman, and staff got their first evacuation email at 11:51.  The Department of Public Safety building at 15th and Congress has also been evacuated. While authorities brought in bomb sniffing dogs, no bomb was found, and officials hope to re-open the Capitol this afternoon.

The first email which went out at 11:51 a.m.:

A bomb threat has been received against the Capitol and police.  DPS Capitol District Office and the Capitol are being evacuated.  K-9s are conducting a sweep of the area at this time.  Be vigilant and report suspicious activities to DPS at 463-3556.

And the second, which went out at 12:09 p.m.:

A bomb threat has been received against the Capitol and police.  DPS Capitol District Office and the Capitol and Extension are being evacuated.  Be vigilant and report suspicious activities or packages to DPS at 463-3556.  All Capitol and Extension employees should evacuate the building immediately and take their personal belongings with them.

This is the first evacuation since metal detectors and security checkpoints were installed in the Capitol.The detectors came after a man fired several shots in the air January. He was apprehended almost immediately.
