Feeling the love at GOP election party

Republicans are feeling confident at the GOP Texas Victory Party. But at 8:30 p.m. we haven’t seen any top of the ticket candidates yet.

It’s still too early in the vote counting to make an appearance. The party faithful are gathered around scattered TV screens to watch Fox News and applaud every time Juan Williams or Sarah Palin makes a verbal jab at President Obama.

There’s a buffet line snaking around the hunting lodge/party headquarters. Staffers are selling Perry’s new book “Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington” for $24 a pop near the buffet line.

What’s most impressive at this point is the number of media milling around waiting for something to happen. They’re wandering around videotaping stuffed animals heads on the walls and Perry’s book table.  A lot of reporters have a glazed look in their eyes since this will be the third gubernatorial election where they’ve had to write about Rick Perry.

One disgruntled journo told me “There’s not much new to write about.”  The big question is will Rick run for higher office? Ilene Witt, a diehard Perry supporter from San Antonio says she’s confident that Perry won’t take that leap.

“I believe him when he says he’s not interested,” she told me, waiting in line for the buffet. We’ll see what happens.
