Newspapers Line Up; Press Polls Some Areas / Houston Press continued pony ing on the Senate race. In silk-stocking precinct 148, which went 1,154-119 against Yarborough in 1957, the poll showed 34-16 for Blakley. In Angelina County, which went 2,646-to-2.556 for home-town-boy Dies over Yarborough in 1957, Yarborough leads, 29 votes to 21 for Blakley. In Polk County, which went against Yarborough 1,595-697 in 1957, Blakley leads 33-17. In Nacogdoches County, 1,545-1,504 for Yarborough over Dies, Yarborough leads Blakley, 30-20. In anti-Yarborough precinct 214 in Houston \(697-83 against Yarbor12 for Blakley. The Press had not polled many pro-Yarborough precincts. \(In precinct 142, by the way, the Press result was 26-24 Yarborough, not 46-24 as reported / Ernest Bailey in the Press reV views the subsidy issue in the Senate race. Blakley, he says, is “opposed to federal aid,” but while Blakley has been on the ‘board of directors of Braniff, Braniff has received at least $10.1 million in federal payments “normally classified as subsidies.” Blakley says “It is not a subsidy.” Political Intelligence Houston Post and Houston Chronicle lined up for the three conservatives, Blakley, Daniel, and Ramsey. Houston Press endorsed Rep. Bob Baker for State Senate but mostly conservatives for House. Fort Worth Star-Telegram, El Paso Times, and Longview News-Journal endorsed Ramsey. Dallas News endorsed Daniel and Ramsey. Corpus Christi Caller endorsed Daniel. Tyler Morning Telegram endorsed John White for re-election. V”Texas Businessman,” the poop sheet for businessmen, says “a sweep for business-conservative candidates is now within reach,” predicts “Blakley will win and it may not be close,” Daniel and Ramsey will win too. “These estimates … tally closely … with the choices of business executives …” says the newsletter. / Sen. Rudolph Weinert, Sev guin, and ex-Sen. Searcy Bracewell, Houston, have endorsed Ramsey. Joe Tonahill, lobbyist for the claimant attorneys, has mailed out a letter to the plaintiff lawyers saying that during the last regular legislature “Ben did everything we asked him to do” and urging his reelection. VKerrville Times endorsed Rep. Joe Burkett for re-election. The Observer has received an emphatic contradiction to its earlier notation that Burkett has serious trouble in his race. J”The Young Democrat,” an eight-times-a-year paper edited by Glenn Graves, made its appearance with emphasis on YD president Maco Stewart’s charge that YD’s name was ‘stolen” or “pirated” in a Blakley ad. \(The YD’s have decided not to sue the management thinks “liberalism in Texas is, if you’ll pardon the expression, the wave of the future.” No candidates are endorsed but there is a letter of welcome from Yarborough and a long story mostly about Gonzalez. H. M. Baggarly, in the Tulia Herald, says he will cast a “protest vote” for Gonzalez ‘against Daniel. A vote for Gon zalez, “the lesser of the several evils running,” Baggarly says, is “an excellent way to rebuke Price Daniel for his political misdeeds.” IEmphasizing Gonzalez’s aris tocratic Mexican forebears, Archer Fullingim in Kountze News writes, “His aristocracy will stack up with and exceed that of any candidate in the governor’s race.” Seguin Enterprise endorsed Daniel for “a fine job during his first term” and serving Texas “with distinction.” LEGALS CITATION BY PUBLICATION THE STATE OF TEXAS TO Juan Alvarado Defendant, in the hereinafter styled and numbered cause: You are hereby commanded to appear before the 126th District Court of Travis County Texas, to be held at the courthouse of said county in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, at or before 10 o’clock A.
