CPPP analysis estimates impact of cuts on local governments

This afternoon the Austin-based Center for Public Policy Priorities released analyses of how proposed cuts to Medicaid, health and human services, public education and higher education in House Bill 1 will affect all 254 counties in Texas.

Here’s a short sampling of the grim numbers:

Medicaid losses, including both state and federal matching dollars
Texas’ total – $18 billion
Harris County – $ 2.7 billion
Travis – $644.1 million
Bexar – $1.4 billion
Dallas – $1.6 billion
Tarrant – $936.3 million
Nueces – $409.6 million
El Paso – $640.2 million

Health and Human Services losses
Texas’ total – $16.1 billion
Harris County – $2.7 billion
Travis – $791.5 million
Bexar – $1.3 billion
Dallas – $1.5 billion
Tarrant – $1.2 billion
Nueces – $407.8 million
El Paso – $473 million
