Molly Awards Registration

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled the 2020 MOLLY Prize Dinner. The winners of this year’s award will be announced on Thursday, April 30, 2020. The decision to cancel the event was made in the interest of the health and safety of our community. However, it has also left us with a $250,000 budget shortfall. You can help us fill this gap by supporting the Texas Observer in lieu of the event with a donation. Please visit this page for more information.

Independent, investigative journalism remains a critical part of a healthy democracy. The MOLLY Prize celebrates that fact.

Please join the Texas Observer and the Texas Democracy Foundation on May 21, 2020, at The LINE Hotel in downtown Austin (111 E Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX 78701) for the 14th annual MOLLY Prize Gala. The evening begins with a 5:30 p.m. open bar cocktail reception. Dinner begins at 6:30.

We’re thrilled to announce that our emcee for the evening will be Kai Wright. Kai is editor of WNYC’s narrative unit and host of The Stakes. He previously hosted There Goes The Neighborhood, Caught, United States of Anxiety, and was co-host of Indivisible. He also previously worked as editor at The Nation, editorial director at Colorlines, and is the author of the book Drifting Toward Love: Black, Brown, Gay and Coming of Age on the Streets of New York.

We hope you can join us for what will be an excellent 14th annual MOLLY Prize gala!

Help fund the MOLLY Scholars Mentorship Program: This year, the Observer is proud to continue its mentorship program for young journalists. Mentees will get free admission to the MOLLY dinner and a mentorship connection with a member of our judges panel. To help fund this effort click the box next to “I’d like to help mentor young journalists” when you buy your ticket. In thanks, we will recognize you in our program and in the next issue of the magazine.
