“I grew up in Houston, surfing. When I moved to Austin in the mid-’80s, I stopped going to the beach as often. But about 10 years ago I decided to get back into surfing and to photograph the experience. This project is less about documentary and more about something more intangible: the experience of it. It’s basically a loose survey of the Texas coast (landscapes, seascapes, architecture and portraits) with an emphasis on the surf culture. I hope to finish up this year by photographing a good hurricane swell.”
