“This a kind-of co-op Renaissance festival near Giddings. You can lease a piece of land there and open up your own jousting stand, art booth, whatever. As a photographer, I’m looking for surreal things that I’m not creating myself. I feel these re-enactors are outsider artists. They’re creating personaes even if they don’t match the reality of their bodies. At the Faire, you find people who maybe feel like they don’t fit in—they’re not status quo people. But they have a passion for recreating the renaissance, and they create a place where they set the rules.”
