“This is Lance Armstrong in the bathroom at a wind tunnel in San Diego, where he was testing his aerodynamics on the bike. Everything is down to a science. When Oakley gave him this pair of sunglasses, he went into the bathroom to check the visibility and fit before wearing them on the bike. Doing great documentary photography is as much about having a good relationship with the subject as the photography itself. I spent a year following Lance around, and this photo shows he trusted me enough to let me follow him into the bathroom.”
