Interview with – War Don Don Director Rebecca Richman Cohen
I had the opportunity to sit down over lunch today with “War Don Don” Director Rebecca Richman Cohen. If you’ve read my review of the movie (the previous post on Arts and Minds), you know that I thought the movie was fascinating. It takes a hard look at complex issue — the role of international justice in helping a war-torn country get back on its feet, and whether an individual can get a fair trial under such circumstances. The movie manages to remain ambiguous about the guilt and motivations of Issa Sesay, the rebel commander on trial from some of the worst crimes imaginable (mass rape, using child soldiers, killing peacekeepers, etc.). So I enjoyed having the chance to ask Cohen how she really felt about his guilt or innocence, and the role of the International Criminal Court in general. The interview is posted above.
