Eye on Texas: Austin’s Chapels

by

Liz Moskowitz

Small white wooden chapels are scattered throughout East Austin, an area of the city that is undergoing major changes to its physical and cultural landscape. Empty pews are a familiar sight at some of the churches, but others have maintained a strong following despite gentrification. I began this project to explore the influence of time on a distinct culture in Austin that has a vibrant past, a resilient present and an uncertain future. All photos are shot on black-and-white film.
