PORTFOLIO A Year in the Life By Jesse Herrera Austin photographer Jesse Herrera considers the Roman Catholic church a constant in a changing Mexican-American community. The year Herrera spent photographing subjects at Our Lady of. Guadalupe Church in Austin resulted in a photo-documentary that is now part of the permanent collection at the Barker Texas History Center of the University of Texas. Herrera takes as his model Sebastian Salgadb, the Brazilian photographer known for his photographs of the .”other faces of the Americas.” The prints selected here are representative of Herrera’ s work, an essay depicting “a people celebrating their culture,” as in the above photo of a child on Ash Wednesday.
