571 Communities in Need! The National Library of Australia in Canberra, Australia, subscribes to the Texas Observer, and so does the library at the Gus Garcia Junior High School in San Antonio. All told, the Observer can be found in more than 1,000 library reading rooms, including nearly 100 in colleges and universities in other states. Yet there are 571 community and county libraries in Texas that are not receiving the Observer. They need it and want it, but feel they cannot afford it. Examine the list on both sides of this page for a city or town that is a sentimental favorite of yours, or for which you have a special concern. You can provide that community with a valuable supplement to the views commonly ex pressed in the local press by making the Observer available in the public library reading room. The special reduced price for library gifts during this campaign is $18 for a one-year subscription. By doing what you can now to help spread the word, you’ll provide justification for librarians to include the Observer in their budget at renewal time. Please try to make room in yourbudget for several libraries. Use the attached order envelope or send this page marked with your instructions to the Observer at 307 West 7th Street, Austin, Texas 78701.
