The people of El Salvador live in a small country with five volcanoes and three earthquakes. The five volcanoes are mercifully dormant. The earthquakes live… The first earthquake Is poverty, a grinding poverty which brings an uneducated, malnourished, unemployed people to death at an average age of 45. The second earthquake is violence, a vicious, frightening violence which in seven years has taken 60,000 non-combatant lives and driven one in every four people from their homes. The third earthquake took lives and destroyed buildings in San Salvador this month, and that one made the newspapers. The people who care for Casa Marianella, a shelter in Austin for Central American refugees, want to do something about all three earthquakes. Please join us in an evening dedicated to companionship and solidarity with the suffering.
