According to Tigua mythology, the Wiede, the Tigua’s spirit, created the Indians in the caves of the Hueco Tanks. The Tiguas lost most of their land, including that which is sacred to them. The State of Texas has returned portions of the Hueco Tanks for the Tiguas to develop as revenue-producing tourist facilities, but the Indians have filed a federal claim to regain all of their ancestral land.
