Fans of Tony Smith were astounded to discover one day that his 17′ by 14′ Asteriskos, one of the best pieces of art displayed at Hemisfair ’68, had vanished. The Observer found the remains of the $35,000 sculpture in a San Antonio junk yard. It hadn’t been stolen. City maintenance men simply had not realized it was sculpture.
