The John F. Kennedy Memorial Library of California State College at Los Angeles subscribes to the Texas Observer, as does the high school library at Holliday, Texas. All told, the Observer can be found in over 200 library reading rooms, including 25 in colleges and universities in other states. Yet there are 281 public and county libraries in Texas, located in the cities listed below, which do not receive the Observer. Richland Hills Rising Star River Oaks Rockdale Rockport Rocksprings Rockwall Rosebud Round Rock Rusk San Angelo San Benito San Juan San Saba Santa Anna Schulenburg Seguin Seminole Seymour Shamrock Sherman Sierra Blanca Silsbee Silverton Sinton Smiley Smithville Snyder Sonora Sour Lake Spearman Spearman Spur Stamford Stanton Stephenville Sterling City Stratford Sweetwater Taft Tahoka Taylor Teague Temple Terrell Texas City Tilden Trinity Tulia Turkey Uvalde Victoria Waco Waelder Weatherford Weimar Wellington Weslaco Wheeler White Settlement Wichita Falls Wills Point Winnsboro Winters Woodville Yorktown Abernathy Brownsville Albany Burkburnett Alice Calvert Alpine Cameron Anahuac ‘ Canadian Andrews Canton Angleton Canyon Anson Carrizo Springs Aransas Pass Carrollton Archer City Carthage Arlington Castroville Aspermont Center Athens Childress Azle Ballinger Clarendon Balmorhea Clarksville Bandera Claude Barksdale Clear Lake Bastrop Cleveland Bay City Clifton Baytown Coldspring Beaumont Columbus Bedford Comanche Belton Comfort Big Lake Commerce Big Spring Copperas Cove Blanco Corsicana Boerne Cotulla Bonham Crane Borger Crockett Bowie Crosbyton Brady Crowell Breckenridge Cuero Brenham Daingerfield Bridgeport Dalhart Brownfield Dayton Libraries are likely to get the Observer habit, once they receive it regularly for awhile. But they need someone to get them started for a year or two. Several Observer friends have from time to time made it their project to see that the Observer reaches a steadily increasing number of library users. Two subscribers continue to send each month a check to be used in this campaign, and last year fifty three-year library subscriptions were entered by another generous supporter. If you find in the list a city which is a sentimental favorite or is of special concern . . . or if you want to be indiscriminate with your generosity and make a random selection . . . then we invite you to provide a source where the community can find a valuable supplement to the views too commonly expressed in the local press by getting that library on the Observer habit: 1 year $6; 2 years $11; 3 years $15. \(As an indication of the extent to which your gift will be used and appreciated, a recent experiment involving the enclosure of subscription enevlopes in all library copies resulted in the addition of nine library Please indicate if we should use your name in announcing the gift.
