And of all the white high school students, 64 percent are attending accredited schools, whereas the comparable figure for Negro students is 43 percent. COmputations based on the same sources reveal that there is less than 4 percent difference between white and Negro rates of enrollment and attendance, with the exception of high school attendance. In the white high schools, 87 percent of the white students are in average daily attendance while only 80 percent of the Negroes are. Ninety-eight percent of both Negroes and whites who were high school seniors in 1952-53 were graduated, but as a percentage of the total number of 17-year-olds in the population of each race, 51 percent of the whites were graduated in 1953, compared with 39 percent of the Negroes.
