Debra Monroe Book Launch Party Thursday June 17 in Austin

Hear Debra Monroe read from her book, “On the Outskirts of Normal,” about her experience being a white mom raising a black daughter in a small town in Central Texas. The event starts at 7pm, June 17 at Bookpeople in Austin. Proceeds from sales will benefit a local nonprofit Extend-A-Care for Kids, which provides subsidized after-school and summer daycare to parents who otherwise can’t afford it.

Monroe’s essay on this theme will appear in the Observer’s summer books issue, July 23.
