For Believer Readers
Hello there, and welcome to the electronic version of Texas.
You’ve probably arrived here because you saw this URL in an ad we placed in the Believer. If you didn’t: Congratulations! You are a pretty great internet sleuth.
Either way, we’d like to tell you a little bit about who we are and what we do. So here goes: When Ronnie Dugger founded the publication in 1954, he did so because most of the rest of the Texas press refused to cover Civil Rights. And, for 63 years, we’ve continued along in that tradition, giving voice to the voiceless; telling stories others won’t touch. These days, we specialize in in-depth, investigative feature work–the kind that can take years to produce. We also pump out daily work online. Our beats include the environment, public health, civil rights, immigration and the border, rural Texas, Texas culture, and, of course, the politics behind it all.
About 20 years ago, we became a nonprofit. Ever since, we’ve relied on the generosity of others to ensure that we can do the important work we do. Please check us out here. If you like what we do, you can support us by becoming a member here.
Thanks for reading. And, however you got here, we hope we can count on your support.
