Monica Brown is the award-winning author of 13 multicultural books for children, including Marisol McDonald Doesn’t Match/Marisol McDonald no combina; Tito Puente, Mambo King/el rey del mambo; and Clara and the Curandera/Clara y la Curandera. Her books have received the Américas Award, the Tejas Star Book Award, and several Pura Belpré illustration honors.
