A Phone Call CAn Do It –

Things go along and go along

almost to monotony, and then

someone is diagnosed, or takes a job

out of town: the whole kaleidoscope

chinks.  Do you feel yourself growing vague?

Well, I guess.  The same crystal bell

rang daily for years; then one stroke

shivered it.  The shards lie there and twinkle.

Lynn D. Gilbert lives in Austin. Her poems have appeared in Borderlands, Concho River Review and Exquisite Corpse.
