Holden Caulfield Sentenced to Eternal Existence as Brooding Teen

On Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge Deborah Batts thwarted the U.S. release of Swede author Fredrik Colting's now famous "critical parody" of J.D. Salinger's wildly popular 1951 novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Colting's story, titled 60 Years Later: Coming through the rye, reportedly opens with a 76-year-old Caulfield waking up in a nursing home, only to escape and retrace the New York City excursions of his youth. In a rather prescient plot twist, Caulfield-redux must avoid several attempts on his life by "Mr. Salinger." Too bad the aged anti-hero couldn't fend off a Salinger lawsuit as well.
You can read the full story in The New York Times or Judge Batts' decision itself for more.
