AUSTIN – The Texas Observer, the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas and the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin are co-hosting the first book-signing with acclaimed author Bill Minutaglio to celebrate publication of Molly Ivins: A Rebel Life.

“Molly Ivins was co-editor of the Texas Observer. In every issue, we strive to live up to her legacy for truth-telling and discomforting the comfortable,” said Carlton Carl, publisher.

“During her wonderful life, Molly Ivins often gave of her time and energy to speak at ACLU events in Texas and all over the country,” said Terri Burke, executive director of the ACLU of Texas.

Dr. Don Carleton of the Briscoe Center added, “Molly Ivins chronicled Texas’ politics in a unique and iconic way. We are pleased to celebrate publication of the biography of this legendary journalist.”

Ivins was a fan of the legendary Scholz Garten, making it a fitting spot for the first book-signing of her biography by noted Texas authors Bill Minutaglio and W. Michael Smith.

Ivins designated the ACLU of Texas and The Texas Observer as keepers of her literary legacy. Proceeds from book sales will benefit both organizations. Ivins passed away in January 2007 following a courageous battle with cancer.
