Final Debate…

February 21st, 2008 at 8:44 pm

King: Obama you love them earmarks too, don’t you? Will you tell us what they are?

Obama: That’s not true. We have been very clear about we got. Talks about his initiative, google for government.

King: On the specific issue on pork barrel spending, does McCain have a better case to make to the American people.

Clinton: Not at all. He supported the wasteful tax cuts. The surplus (subtext: my husband created) is gone… I will get us back to fiscal responsibility.

Attacks Bush.

Clinton: The larger question is who will move us toward fiscal responsibility?…

Jorge Ramos, Univision: Asks the superdelegate question.

Clinton: I think it will sort itself out. We will have unified Democratic Party and go on to victory.

Obama: I have no doubt that the Democratic Party at its best can summon a sense of higher purpose for the American people.

Makes a case for not being an insider and letting the people decide.

Brown: What was the moment that tested you the most in your life?

Obama talks about the trajectory of his entire life. Gives his resume. Gets in the background as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, etc. That cumulative experience is the reason he can do all the things he’s promising.

Clinton: I think everybody here knows I’ve lived through some crisis and some challenges in my life.

(What a strange applause point)

People often ask me how I do it. With all the challenges I’ve had they are nothing compared to the challenges so many Americans face… Talks about injured war vets with great empathy. She went to a veterans hospital with John McCain.

She is blessed and she is called to give the same blessings to other Americans. No matter what happens in this contest. I am honored to be here with Barack Obama. Whatever happens we are going to be fine. Obama nods.

Strong finish. She gets the last word.

  1. stephen h. smith says:

    another draw

HRC finishes with her best line/answer of the night

BHO holds his own with a skilled and experienced debater

HRC can get very technical and specific
BHO can inspire with rhetoric (borrowed or not)

W’s approval rating (in one poll on one day) is below 20%
polls consistently show 3/5’s or more Americans want US military presence in Iraq ended
it should be the easiest DEM victory since 1932
