Taking It to the Bakery
September 1st, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Some good theater could be had this morning on the streets surrounding the Fort Worth Convention Center where the presidential straw poll was set to take place.
David Hall of Fort Worth rigged up a replica Liberty Bell on a trailer that he parked in front of the convention center. He claims it’s the nation’s only traveling replica Liberty Bell. All morning, delegates rang the bell in honor of fallen U.S. soldiers. The trailer was covered in Ron Paul signs, though Hall said he wasn’t endorsing any candidate.
The Paul supporters swarmed all over the convention; Ron Paul t-shirts and posters are everywhere you look. How many of these folks are actually voting delegates is anyone’s guess. One wonders, if Paul, an anti-war candidate, wins the Texas straw poll by a wide-majority, which would it worry more, the GOP or the pundits?
Meanwhile, the anti-war rally was a washout, literally. Rain began to fall about half an hour before the planned mid-day “peace rally.” Several hundred bedraggled activists gathered across the street from the convention center listening to reggae music.
Despite the poor turnout, there were a few golden moments of interaction between the anti-war activists and the GOP delegates. A group of the “peace police” — decked out in bright pink police uniforms and dragging around a person in prison garb and a President Bush mask — marched around downtown. They stopped for lunch at a Corner Bakery, and their entrance elicited looks of horror from the business-attired Republicans eating sandwiches.

I was following the Texas Straw Poll on TownHall.com.
There certainly is a lot of Paul bashing going on the TownHall.com site.
Certainly seems a bit biased before during and after the poll.
Is Annie Coulter over there?
I think it would worry the pundits more.
I think this race is becoming more like the problem mainstream media is really worried about 2 things. Well competition and lowered advertising rates.
That is what the internet does to the mainstream media.
Is in in George Stephalumpalous to make fun of the lesser known candidates? Yes. Why, because ABC is going to sell a shiznit load of advertising. As long as….they can keep the internet out of this…and they can start whispering in the ears of the “highly funded” candidates how they are willing to give them a better deal for their advertising dollars.
The internet represents a change in the way we get our information. More importantly, it is a change of where we see ads and who controls the pricing structure of the ads.
So, as always follow the money.
Thankfully we have the internet to help equalize.
Unfortunately, the largest voting block (our seniors) are 1) not on the internet and 2) really don’t care about the future in this country when they won’t be around to deal with the problems we will be facing. Quite frankly, they like most Americans are only worried about themselves and not countering the senior vote is only allowing run-away social security and medicare.
So, please. register and vote. And keep following the money.

I used to respect Cindy Sheehan, and I liked the attention she brought to the war. But at this point it’s obvious she is just a sold out phony who wants to take advantage of her 15 minutes. How the hell can she organize a rally and not mention Ron Paul once? There is no way she hasn’t heard of him, and if she wants truth and accountability, why doesn’t she yell at Hillary and Edwards? After all, they voted for the war! Ron Paul voted against it and is the ONLY candidate running who wants to end it immediately! Cindy is a joke and she’s using her son’s corpse as a running mate.

Ron Paul is ALL HAT AND NO CATTLE! Yes Ron Paul voted against going to Iraq but Ron Paul has not even proposed legislation to recall the troops. If you think that is not true please post the date and legislation that he proposed removal of our troops from Iraq since I can not find it. He could at least propose legislation and hold a press conference with like minded congress people. He needs to challenge Congress in the media the way Ronald Reagan did.
In regards to who has authority to bring our troops back, Read the War Powers Resolution H. J. Res. 542 of 1973 and “Use of Force” H.J.Res 114 of 2002. It says Congress can bring them home at anytime no matter what the President wants. Stop blaming the President and start holding Congress to task.
Here is a quote from Ron Paul about his fake anti war legislation: “Unlike other proposals, this bill does not criticize the president’s handling of the war. It does not cut off funds for the troops. Nor does this bill set a timetable for our withdrawal” WHY NOT?

All seemed to have a great time at the American People’s Poll on Iraq - Texas Townhall. Although the crowd wasn’t as large as preferred, this was the biggest “peace rally” that Fort Worth has seen and helped to keep attention of elected officials on the issue of the Iraq war.
Texans for Peace was joined by peace activists from several states and looks forward to building as stronger peace movement throughout the region.

Dave,
The “peace police” is actually CodePink Austin’s “Pink Police”. We are an in your face group of women and men supporters who take the anti-war message to the streets in a bold way. Our other action at the straw poll was to release a helium balloon banner at the main entrance to the civic center. It read “Hey losers, Iraq is the last straw.” We also paraded the “prisoners”, george and dick, around the convention center and handed out citations. The republicans had literally locked themselves inside the convention center, but at the sight of us, one woman was moved enough to open a door and sternly yell “may god have mercy on your souls!!” We commented later that they seem to throw around god’s name like a curse…instead of saying “F*** you!”, they invoke the almighty. I guess this is what my mother used to call being “blessed out.”
Thanks,
Fran, CodePink Austin

This Poll has all the earmarks of a Fascist Regime and a staged event to discredit only one man. Ron Paul. His people from San Antonio had registered online and gotten a receipt saying registration at 10 AM. The busload was there but the registrars grabed their paper work and left the tables at exactly 10 AM saying the registration ENDED at 10. They refused to allow that busload of folks into the voting area. YET… just a few moments later another group showed up that were not Paul supporters and were ushered in by the back door. Yes that was documented and photographed
See the You tube video showing the security officer turning away paid delegates.

The freeper slamming Cindy Sheehan was obviously not at the People’s Poll on Iraq…nor knows anything about the event. It was not organized by her, it was organized by the amazing Charlie Jackson and Texans for Peace. Cindy Sheehan was there to speak, to support the peace movement AND to support the Iraqi Veterans Against the War. On top of that, she DID specifically thank Ron Paul for his stance against the war during her speech. So you are WRONG on all points.

Excuse me? The rally was a wash-out? Tell that to the 700 people who had such a great time. Activists in the Metroplex feel that this rally gave them legitimacy for the first time, that it showed their community that peace activists are not freaks, they’re family people with hopes and dreams like everyone else. I don’t think the writer was there, his facts certainly aren’t correct on the Pink Police or on anything else. Incidentally, this event focused on Cindy only in the respect that it focused on the losses of American mothers and fathers, who were in abundance in the speakers’ ranks as well as the attendees.
Next time, try observing the actual event.
