Friday Fireworks?

May 18th, 2007 at 7:30 am

Via Charles Kuffner, the Chron blog reports that “Sen. Mario Gallegos is headed back to Houston for a surgical procedure and is not sure whether he will return to Austin for the remainder of the session, according to his spokesman Harold Cook.” Without Gallegos, Senate Dems don’t have the votes to use the 2/3 Rule to keep voter ID legislation from coming up for debate.

That means we might get an abortion showdown in the House and a voter ID blow-up (and possible filibuster) on the same day — a Friday no less. The Observer crew will be on the scene like seismologists on a fault line.

Senatorial courtesy. Senator Mario Gallegos has asked his colleagues for Senatorial courtesy, and I hope they will provide that. The Senate convenes at 10:00 a.m. this morning and we’ll see how much rebuilding after the Wednesday meltdown was real.

Thus, your gloating about Dewhurst’s failures the other day were apparently premature. Don’t count your eggs…
