El Ritmo de Obama en Reggaeton Ringtone

February 21st, 2008 at 6:40 pm

We are all aware (if we are breathing and have any kind of a pulse) that both Obama and Hillary really really want the Latino vote in Texas. Both candidates are working You Tube, blog posts, text messaging and in Senator Obama’s case even ringtones to catch the ear of Latino voters.

Miguel Orozco, president of Nueva Vista media, based in Los Angeles is the creator of the Amigos de Obama Web site where Obama suporters can download music videos and ringtones. Orozco who is in his 30s, says he is not on Obama’s campaign payroll but created the Web site because he wanted to help Obama reach out to Latinos.

“I literally sketched out the Web site on a napkin,” he says. “I’m doing this because I am an ardent supporter.”

Orozco says he was inspired to write the lyrics for a reggaeton song about the candidate after hearing Obama speak last year. For those of you who aren’t acquainted with reggaeton it’s like the old Reeses peanut butter cup commercial — “Hey you put your reggae in my bomba and merengue!”

This week, Orozco launched a corrido called “Viva Obama” on his Web site. Orozco said he was sitting on his couch last Tuesday when he came up with the idea to make a corrido. “I thought I really need to produce something for Texas because 40 percent or more of the voters out there are Latino. I wanted to do a corrido because it tells a story.”

To my knowledge, there are no Hillary corridos or reggaeton ringtones out there yet. I did find my (new) favorite poet and musical composer on You Tube, however, Don Jose Abuergo who has written poetry and a song for Hillary. Senator Clinton someone in Buenos Aires loves ya!

Here are the words that came to Miguel Orozco on that fateful day when he was moved by Senator Obama to lay down some Spanglish lyrics to a Reggaeton beat. The English translation is at the end.

We did the marchas y ahora vamos a votar.
Listen to me gente, es tiempo para algo diferente..
What we need is un nuevo presidente…
Como Se Dice…Como Se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA! (Repeat)
Mexicanos como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!
Puerto Rique_os, como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!
Peruanos, como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!

OBAMA! OBAMA!
Dominicanos, como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!
Los Cubanos, como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!
Los Brasilieros, como se llama?
OBAMA! OBAMA!
Salvadore_os, como se llama?
Latinos!!!
Es un Hombre preparado…
La esperanza ha llegado…
Obama! Obama!*

Listen my people,
This is a prepared man,
Hope has arrived

How do you say it
What is his name?
Obama, Obama

They say that we don’t count
invisible because we don’t vote
but here we are
and everything is going to change
We did the marches and now we are going to vote
Listen my people
it’s time for something different
what we need is a new president

In this great nation there isn’t education anymore
they say all the money goes to immigration
it’s easy to blame those who don’t vote
the Latino giant is growing up
Wake up!
We’re going to elect someone who can really understand

Mexicans, Puerto ricans, Peruvians, Colombians, Dominicans, Cubans, Brazilians, Salvadoreans, hope has arrived, how do you say it? what’s his name?

Obama, Obama…

orale, una cancion de obama. y es reggaeton. PERO, yo dudo que personas van a enterarse de la cancion a tiempo. OROZCO, busca una manera para que le llege a un wider audience. myspace, youtube, buscalo. sigue haciendo lo que haces. OBAMA 09, VIVA LATINOS!
